Our favorite brands and styles:
If you want us to buy your items, make sure they are pieces we will be interested in! One way to figure out what we like is to shop around our store. This way you will have a good idea of what we have already bought from customers. We pay attention to trends, seasons, and our own inventory when we buy. Tops, jeans, and shoes are our most popular items, so we are always in need of more!
We also keep our eyes on our best-selling brands. Here’s a list of our favorites:
• AG, Allbirds, Allsaints, Anthropologie, Arc’teryx, Aritzia, Athleta, Banana Republic, Birkenstock, Blundstone, Carhartt, Chaco, Citizens of Humanity, Coach, Dickies, Dr. Martens, Everlane, For Love and Lemons, Free People, Frye, Hoka, Joe’s, Johnny Was, Kimchi Blue, Kuhl, Levi's, Lisa Says Gah, Maeve, Madewell, Marine Layer, Mother, Patagonia, Rag & Bone, Re/Done, Reformation, Tevas, The North Face, Vans, Vince
The list goes on! We also love vintage items. The brand matters less with vintage, so here are some of our favorite types of items in addition to brands when it comes to buying vintage.
• Athletic Outerwear, Boots, Button-downs, Denim, Leather, Linen, Maxi Skirts, Midi Skirts, Overalls, Silk, Slip Dresses, Sneakers, Sweatshirts, Sweaters, Tees

Remember, this list is not all-inclusive! If you think you have something we would be interested in but it is not on the list, please bring it in.
What we won't take:
Because we value sustainability, we want the clothes sold at Calico to last a long time. Because of this, we do not accept low quality fast fashion brands such as:
• SHIEN, Forever 21, H&M, Old Navy, Target (A New Day, Universal Thread, Wild Fable, Shade & Shore, Goodfellow, All in Motion, ect.), Pretty Little Thing, Amazon Brands, Temu, Fashion Nova, MissGuided, Nasty Gal, ect.
We do not accept damaged or dirty items. Please wash and treat your items before coming to Calico.
We do not accept socks or underwear.
Lastly, we do not accept kids clothes at our downtown location. Please check out our new children's store!
Do I need an appointment?
Nope! We buy at any time during our opening hours. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before close to give our staff enough time to process your items.
How do you decide on pricing?
What we pay you is based on what we price the items. We give 25% in cash or 35% in store credit.
Do you sell kid's clothes?
Short answer:Yes, and no. Long answer:Yes, we do! Calico is opening a children's store in 2025. Kids clothes should be brought to that location or to a buy event explicitly accepting both adult and children's items.
Where do I park?
Since we are located in downtown SLO, we cannot provide parking to customers. Luckiliy, we are located right next to a public parking garage!
Are you a thrift store or a consignment store?
Neither! We get this question a lot. We are a second-hand store, meaning we do not take donations like a thrift store would. Because of this, our prices are typically higher than you may find at a thrift store. That is because we buy our inventory from our customers. It's similar to a consignment shop, but you get paid right away instead of waiting for your items to sell.
How do you source your inventory?
We buy from you! The majority of our inventory comes from the local community. The staff here love to thrift, so they also source some of our inventory. (Sound like fun? We're hiring!)
